I admit it: I'm a total geek. I love electronics, programming, 3D printing, 3D art, and vintage Apple hardware. I'm always juggling half a dozen projects. I also enjoy documenting it all: my successes, my failures, my experiences... and everything geeky along the way.

Hamilton Khaki Automatic Chronograph - 3 Subdial Version

This is the Hamilton Khaki Automatic Chronograph reference H71416733. It uses the Valjoux 7750 movement, much like my other Hamilton chronograph. However, this one has three subdials, instead of two. Not to mention, a much cleaner, field watch style aesthetic. I fell in love with this watch the moment I discovered it. I just had to get my hands on one. I love chronographs and Hamilton is one of my favorite brands.

I scoured eBay for months and came up empty. I saw two come and go in the $1400 range. Worth every penny, but more than I wanted to spent. This watch is no longer manufactured by Hamilton, so it's getting harder and harder to find. It originally retailed for $1800, so who knows how much it's going to go for a few years from now. Watches are weird. Sometimes the price goes up, sometimes it goes down. Considering the only two that I've seen on eBay were both posted for ~$1400, it didn't appear as if I was going to score one for under a grand.

As luck would have it, my patience was rewarded. I kept my eyes peeled for another one and managed to score this guy mint in the box with tags and papers for less than half of the retail price. I am thrilled! Other than my Speedmaster, this has to be by far my favorite watch.

I just wish I was able to find the one with the bracelet. I know beggars can't be choosers. The bracelet that came on my 38mm field watch has lug holes in a slightly different spot, so it won't fit on this watch. It's almost impossible to find the matching Hamilton bracelet after the fact. I'm not a big fan of the leather strap that it comes with. It's very thick and bulky. I'll probably put it on a NATO strap.

Check out that movement. So cool. You can tell by the rotor that this is a later model. I believe these were originally released somewhere around 2004. The date on the manual shows that it is the 2015 version. The warranty card that it came with shows that the previous owner purchased it in 2017. This watch is only two years old, and never worn. It still had the stickers on it.

Wow. That just looks awesome.
